Capping off the top five infrared headphones are Pyle Wireless IR Mobile Video Stereo Headphones. We really enjoyed the ear cushions because they provide more of a noise-canceling effect. Depending on the volume you personally set, you will still be able to hear people talk to you, but you won’t hear the majority of the outside noise. The TV headphones don’t offer the greatest frequency response so you won’t get the greatest range of sound. However, these infrared headphones are easy to configure and offer decent audio, free of static, and a comfortable design.
Pyle’s PLVWH5 Wireless Stereo Headphones are designed specifically for in-vehicle entertainment. The TV headphones do not come with a transmitter of their own and will only work with TV screens that have a compatible built-in transmitter. While this is a great benefit for users who want infrared headphones solely for in-vehicle use, it is a setback for users who want infrared headphones for home entertainment.
We found that while the specifications state the effective range is 26 feet, the headphones provide the best quality when used approximately 20 feet or less from the transmitter. They have a 90-degree effective area, allowing you to keep the signal while moving 45-degrees to the left and 45-degrees to the right of the transmitter. They have a personal volume control for additional comfort and an automatic shutdown feature which will turn the headphones off once the audio signal has been lost to preserve battery life. The transmitter and the headphones were easy to set up and very convenient and comfortable to use.
The Pyle PLVWH5 Wireless Stereo Headphones have an ear cup design. The design has an elevated padded circle surrounding the ear piece which covers your ear for a noise-cancelling effect. Through our research we found that many users prefer this design for the additional sound quality and comfort it provides.
Through our research we found that users were pleased with the comfort of the TV headphones. We found the ear cups very impressive and were also pleased with the quality and design. The headphones go over the head, instead of behind, and can be adjusted to fit a child or an adult. Because they are built for in-vehicle entertainment, we would have liked to see a carrying case, but the headphones don’t come with one.
While their online product documentation is limited, Pyle does offer a few resources for customer help and support. Through their website you can find a product page built specifically for the PLVWH5 Wireless Stereo Headphones. The page offers product specifications, a product description and the owner’s manual. While the information is limited, it will give you some idea of what you can expect from the product. The owner’s manual offers half a page of specifications: carrier frequency, power requirements, distortion, frequency response, power supply and a diagram of the infrared effective range. It was clean and organized but didn’t provide the amount of information that we expected to find, which was somewhat disappointing.
Also on their website is a Contact Us link. After clicking on the link you will be able to contact Pyle Audio Inc. via a toll-free phone number, a fax number or an email address. We called them multiple times and experienced wait times as short as five minutes and occasionally as long as 15 minutes. While the wait time was at times fairly long, we were appreciative of their knowledge and polite employees. The representatives were able to answer all of our questions, and they were willing to talk to us until we were confident that we no longer had additional questions. However, despite our positive experiences talking with Pyle on the phone, we sent them an email and after a week had still not received a response.
While Pyle produces excellent products, you want to make sure the infrared headphones you choose provide the design features you want. These infrared TV headphones do not come with a transmitter but can be used with a TV as long as your TV has a compatible built-in transmitter. They offer a comfortable fit, a solid audio connection within the approved range and a decent battery life, plus battery saving capabilities. While they are not as versatile as some other infrared headphones, Pyle Wireless IR Mobile Video Stereo Headphones are excellent for in-vehicle entertainment use.
